The Chaffee saw service in the American Army between 1944 and 1953, though it was still in action as late as the 1970s in some armies.
It was intended to replace the Stuart and the first models entered Europe in November 1944.
It weighed 20 tonnes and was armed with a 75mm M6 gun and two Browning machine guns. It was crewed by five; commander, gunner, loader, driver and assistant driver/radio operator
