The Su-76i should not be confused with the SU-76 which are totally different vehicles.

The SU-76i was a Russian conversion of a German Panzer III or StuG II. The chassis of these vehicles were used from captured German vehicles. The turrets were removed and a fixed casemate was added in which a 76.2mm S-1 gun was added.

Some 201 captured German vehicles were converted in this way, many captured at the battle of Stalingrad. They saw action in 1943 and 1944 before being withdrawn from active service for training duties.
Two known examples survive, one in Ukraine and the other in Moscow.
